Operational BI

Overview

Operational BI embeds intelligence into the tactical and operational processes of your business, using reporting, active dashboards, and real-time decision execution. Operational intelligence solutions often combine the delivery of in-context information and/or recommendations to enrich human judgment with automated decision-making.

Technology

The technologies required to support Operational BI include standard reports with well-defined distribution and access mechanisms, portals for scorecards and dashboards, and rules engines with embedded analytical models. The Pentaho BI suite provides an excellent platform for these needs, offering native BI process definitions and comprehensive report management and distribution capabilities. Reports can be written with JFreeReport, JasperReports and BIRT and launched from Pentaho. Finally, JBoss Portal provides the primary interface for parameterized scorecards and dashboards using embedded Pentaho portlets for dials, charts, and reports.
